Because we'd teach the lot and treat them just the same. Because we'd take loyalty and hard work over cleverness, courage, or ambition any day. Because Professor Sprout rules. Because being underestimated isn't always a bad thing. Puff pride!

You might belong in Hufflepuff, where they are just and loyal, those patient Hufflepuffs are true, and unafraid of toil.

So brave and trying to protect Harry.

Let’s talk about Cedric Diggory.
Cedric Diggory is a character who is often mocked and made the butt of jokes. Usually people make fun of him for things like being played by the same actor as Edward Cullen, being a Hufflepuff, or being “a useless pretty boy”. But Cedric Diggory is better than that, and I really think that people forget what a brave, kind and wonderful boy Cedric was.
First, let’s break down these claimed negativities about Cedric one by one.
In the film version of Harry Potter, Cedric was played by Robert Pattinson. Robert is a brilliant actor, but unfortunately often recieves a lot of hate by small minded people who can’t seperate the actor from the character. Not only do both these characters originate from a book that has nothing to do with Rob, but also Robert is a fine actor. He’s a sweet and funny guy who often mocks the ridiculousness of Twilight himself. Cedric Diggory ≠ Edward Cullen. Cedric Diggory > Edward Cullen.
The next reason Cedric is often mocked is due to him belonging to a house that is often over-shadowed by the others for being “the leftovers.” I do not think this is right. Hufflepuff has produced many fine people, such as the brave and brilliant auror Nymphadora Tonks who died fighting for us in the Battle of Hogwarts, the no-nonsense Slytherpuff Zacharias Smith, the future wife of Neville Bamf Longbottom and landlady of the Leaky Cauldon Hannah Abbott, the kind and helpful Pomona Sprout, the famous and well-respected magizoologist Newt Scammander, and Ernie Macmillian who was brave enough to find Harry and apologise for suspecting him and admit he had been wrong about Harry being The Heir of Slytherin, which I think was a very brave thing to do.
The idea of Cedric being a useless “pretty boy” comes from George Weasley’s statement that “He’s only silent because he’s too thick to string two words together.” I think it’s interesting to note that George became angry and said this only after Katie and Angelina were giggling and talking about how handsome Cedric was, which means it’s likely that George was jealous of Cedric at this point, considering how Angelina turns out to be George’s future wife. Harry to makes this statement about Cedric in a similar situation when he see’s Cedric walking with Cho Chang. This clearly shows that the idea of Cedric being all about looks and not about brains stems from jealousy of his way with the ladies and the fact he beat them at Quidditch. As Hermione says “He’s not an idiot. You just don’t like him because he beat Gryffindor at Quidditch, I’ve heard he’s a really good student - and he’s a prefect.”
So Cedric is not a lame or useless character. He is brilliant. Apart from the insults mentioned earlier being of no legitimate value, Cedric also shows that he has many decent qualities through-out the series, which I will discuss next.
Cedric was clearly extremely talented in many areas of life and learning, because the Goblet of Fire chose his as the best candidate to represent Hogwarts out of all the other students who entered their names. The Goblet choosing him means he must be pretty awesome.
When Harry tells Cedric about the dragons, Cedric could have kept the information he found out later about the egg to himself, but he didn’t. He chose to share what he found out with Harry to make things fair. Similarly, in Prisoner of Azkaban when Gryffindor lose the quidditch match due to Harry fainting after dementors invade the pitch, Cedric insisted on a rematch: “Diggory got the Snitch. Just after you fell, he didn’t realize what had happened. When he looked back and saw you on the ground, he tried to call it off. Wanted a re-match. But they won fair and square… Even Wood admits it.” Cedric wants to take the cup with Harry at the end of the maze. Cedric is a “good sport” who values fair play and always does what he believes to be the right thing.”
Cedric was non-judgemental. Personally, open-mindedness it a quality that I admire very much in people. Viktor Krum said posthumously of Cedric: “I liked Diggory. He vos alvays polite to me. Alvays. Even though I vos from Durmstrang - with Karkaroff.”
As this gif [above] shows, Cedric was brave. When they landed in the graveyard, not only was he trying to protect himself, but he was also trying to protect Harry, as Harry was three years younger than him at the time.
Cedric is a brave, kind, fair, and always-does-the-right thing kind of boy. As Albus Dumbledore said, Cedric was a boy who was “good, and kind, and brave” and we should remember him as such. The boy who won The Triwizard Tournament and yet wanted to share the winnings with a boy who helped him because he thought it fair, and died trying to protect said boy deserves to be remembered well. He at least deserves that.
